HILLCREST JEWISH CENTER
Mental Health initiative
Hillcrest Jewish Center’s Mental Health Initiative began in Fall 2016 after Rabbi Kogan delivered a Rosh Hashanah d’var Torah on mental illness. A group of congregants interested in mental health and mental illness created the Initiative. The group has three major goals. The first goal is to educate the congregation about mental illness and provide sources of help. Secondly, by starting to talk openly about mental illness, we hope to raise awareness and therefore reduce the stigma often attached to it. Finally, we want to make Hillcrest Jewish Center a welcoming environment for people who live with mental illness and for the families of people who live with mental illness, a place where all people can feel comfortable to reach out for help and support when they need it.
